Product Review: Glossy Box December 2011

Well, I just received my Glossy Box December box and what can I say? I’m a little disappointed. Maybe disappointed is to strong a word, maybe underwhelmed is better? Either way, I wasn’t over the moon with my first Glossy Box.

But let’s get down and talk about it before I go into why I feel this way. *Drumroll* First, here’s the box. So far, so good!

Gorgeous packing!

And now for what was inside the box:

The contents of my Glossy Box.

- Clinique Turnaround Overnight Moisturiser (7ml Sample)
- Tigi Bedhead Manipulator (full size product)
- Gorgeous cosmetics lip liner in ‘Premiere’ (full size product)
- Calvin Klein Forbidden Euphoria Eau De Parfum spray (1.2ml sample)
- John Frieda Sheer Blonde Lightening spray (29ml product)
- BONUS: a card to go to a Clinique counter at Myer or David Jones for a consultation and a foundation sample for 7 days use.

Can I just say, I love Clinique? I know a lot of people consider it to be a more ‘mature’ brand but I have loved them every since I tried their divine range of cream blush compacts when I was 13 (showing my age!). I was so happy to get this sample as I have never tried their skincare products. Looking forward to trying this out tonight!

The next product was the Tigi manipulator and it sure does sound like an interesting product. However, the results it promises really aren’t my thing so I’ve gifted this to my brother. It smells delicious though, kind of like bubblegum! Similarly I love the idea of the Gorgeous lipliner but as I don’t wear lipliner I gifted this to my mum. Good news is that she loves it (win for Glossy Box!)

It all sounds great right? Well it was, but then I saw the other two products and felt disappointed.

First up, the John Frieda Lightening spray. What was wrong with it? Well, I’m a brunette and this is specified in my Glossy Box profile. Having gone to the effort to fill out my profile, to help them out, I am annoyed that it was ignored in the production of my box. Why was I sent a product I couldn’t use? Not happy. I will probably gift the John Frieda lightening spray to my sister but I would of liked sown thing I could use myself.
Note: I have contacted Glossy Box and am waiting to hear back about this issue.

Next up, the Calvin Klein Forbidden Euphoria perfume sample. It’s not that I’m unhappy with it, the fragrance is actually quite nice, if not a little powerful compared to what I’m used to. The problem for me is that I was given this little 1.2ml fragrance sample when others got full size Sally Hansen nail polishes in their boxes. As others have blogged, and made mention on the company’s Facebook page, this doesn’t seem like a fair substitute. My advice to the Glossy team: keep it fair, full size for full size, sample for sample.

But you know what? Really, even with all of this, Glossy Box is still great value considering it’s only $14.95 a month. And from general feedback I’ve read, their customer service has improved from last month. Win. So I wouldn’t worry if you just signed up.

Will I resubscribe for January? I don’t think so. I’ve already subscribed to I Love This Box and I’m excited to unwrap my first box in January. Let’s see how that goes.

Did you get Glossy Box this month? What do you like/dislike?

Note: sorry about the photos being on their sides, I’m once again without Internet so I’m restricted to blogging from my phone and it’s an absolute nightmare!

Oh no! i just signed up for my first one for Jan! Despite signing up, i don’t think i’ll stay a member for long. I already have so many products that i love so it’s a bit crazy to try and discover more!

Me to! This was my first box ever and I’m not sure I’m that keen on the idea. Like you I have soo many products already… Don’t worry I think glossy is rather good but I’m just disappointed that something so silly (like matching a blonde product to a brunette) happened. I don’t mind getting average products so long as they’re ones I can use, this one I couldn’t. Better luck for you I hope! :)

I was underwhelmed like you. I have brown hair and don’t use lipliner. I would like to start but would prefer a more nude colour. Gave the rest away. I’ll have to check out the other box you mentioned. Great blog! Rachel

I’m not entirely convinced that these boxes are that terrific (and I was so excited about them initially!). I’ll see how I go with I Love This Box this month, and see if I subscribe to any from then on. I hope they begin to take profiles into account, so annoying to get things you can’t use! Thanks for reading!
