Here we are on the sad side of Christmas (another year to wait??? No!!!), but on the bright side the sun is shining and summer is literally here. One of my favourite things about summer is how simple our makeup routine becomes. Most days I just wear a tinted moisturiser, maybe a hint of concealer (to cover this whopper of a pimple I have on my chin!), mascara and illuminator. Easy peasy, out the door in five.
On Boxing Day I headed down to the shops to update my summer makeup wardrobe and score some bargains. Well. Bargains I found! I’ll be posting about my many finds in coming posts, but today I want to share my five favourites. Because they’re awesome. And guess what? None will cost you over $20, thus not breaking that new years resolution you have to save more/spend less on makeup this year…
So without further ado, my top five!

(L-R) Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner, Face of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminator in 'Angel Blush,' Face of Australia SPF 30 Tinted Moisturiser, Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kollection nail polish in 'Kourt is red-y for a pedi,' Australis Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick in 'Jitterbug'
Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner $19.95
This spray has long been a staple in my skincare regime as it perks my skin up like nothing else. Like everything else in the (amazing) Sukin range, the spray is alcohol and paraben free. It’s also free of just about every other nasty ingredient you can think of, so it’s a great product for those that are careful about what they put on their skin. The spray has a light, flowery scent and a great pump so you get a good dose of product without over doing it. These last for what feels like forever so definitely a great investment!
Tip: In summer I pop it in the fridge so whenever I need a spritz it’s cool and refreshing. Try it!
Face of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminator in ‘Angel Blush’ $14.95
What a find! I first found out about this product from reader Ingrid’s blog. Basically, this is a fabulous illuminator that comes in a range of four colours ranging from a white pearl to bronze. Being fair skinned and not wanting an overly out there look, I went for ‘Angel Blush’ which is a gorgeous pinky-brown that adds just enough colour and shine. This product is such great value as you only need a teeny bit of product. I love it so much it’s meant that my Benefit Girl Meets Pearl has been sitting in my makeup bag all lonely…
Tip: A little goes a long, long, long way. Believe me.
Face of Australia SPF 30 Tinted Moisturiser $11.95
Now, if you’re familiar with my blog you’ll know that I’m quite obsessed with tinted moisturiser. Well, this offering is by far one of the best I’ve ever tried (really!). It comes in three shades (light, medium and dark tint) and even I who puts Snow White to shame, am able to use the light tint. It looks sensational! Not at all oily, great coverage for a TM, doesn’t have an offensive fragrance, and absurdly cheap considering the quality. When I wear this I get so many compliments on how ‘awake’ and ‘glowy’ I look. Love it.
Tip: Apply with your fingers for an easy application.
Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kollection Nail Polish in ‘Kourt Is Red-y For A Pedi’ $14.95
Well, it’s probably no secret that I love the Kardashian’s (guilty). So when I heard that they were collaborating with OPI to bring out a range of nail polishes, well, I was excited. I nabbed the fabulous coral-red shade (Kourt is Red-y For A Pedi) at my local chemist and absolutely adore it. It’s the perfect shade for summer.
Australis Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick in ‘Jitterbug’ $12.95
Again, you know I love a bright lip, so of course I couldn’t resist this deliciously bright, creme red lipstick.* I actually really love the formula which is different for me, as I’m usually quite a lipstick snob. Being so affordable, I’m ecstatic that I discovered this lipstick and will definitely be collecting other colours.
Tip: Apply with a lip brush. I found it a little tricky to get a perfect application just using the tube.
*I’ll be swatching the lipstick in a post soon!

I’ve heard so much about the Face of Australia tinted moisturiser. Been looking for a new one for so long so will definitely hit up Priceline on my way home tonight!
And don’t worry, i love the Kardashian’s too!!
Hope it works for you as well as it has for me! I’m absolutely in love with it…the price helps to!
Thanks for this post. I’m really pale & often have trouble with tinted moisturisers being too dark so I’ve been using Hissyfit for a while because they have so many great shades. But lately Hissyfit is harder to find plus it’s $30+ I’m going to have to try the Face of Australia tinted moisturiser.
The Hissyfit is fantastic but yes hard to find lately which is disappointing! It’s hard being pale, so many foundations end up looking too dark or orange…finding one that matches is a victory! Hope you have some luck with the Face of Australia TM!
